We don’t always have to talk about lights. Lights (and locks!) are a huge part of your overall design scheme, so let’s talk about that for a little while.
Here are some design trends that we’d be happy to see fall by the wayside. We like keeping things classic, modern, and up-to-date. These trends on the other hand… well… they just don’t work for us.
Wayward Design Trends
- Granite countertops. Please! These came into style in the 1980s, so they immediately make your kitchen look dated. Go for a crisp white marble for a more contemporary look. Make sure you match your interior light fixtures with your appliances.
- Stainless steel appliances. These just make your kitchen look industrial and cold. Instead, try to add a fun pop of color. You can do this with glass light fixtures and so much more.
- Heavy drapery. These used to mean luxury—but now they’re just outdated. Lighten it up a bit.
- CFLs. (Hey, this is right up our alley!) You don’t have to use compact fluorescent bulbs in order to be green. Do the planet a favor and switch to a combination of a halogen bulb and a dimmer. If you dim your halogen bulbs to 50%, you’ll save over 40% energy and the bulb can last more than 10 years.
