Power Saving Tips for the Chillier Seasons: Turn off Your Lights so you can turn up Your Heat

With fall right around the corner, it’s time to put away the fans and bring out your room zone heaters! No matter how hard we try to fight it, turning on the heat at some point is inevitable. For most of us our heating bill is one of the highest bills we pay, but at Lighting and Locks, we think it doesn’t have to be. There are great ways to save on your energy costs so you don’t have to suffer through the chillier and brisk fall months.

Remember to turn off the lights so you can have a warmer night!

Turn your lights off when you leave a room: This is something many people probably do already. However, when you’re rushing around trying to get out the door, perhaps turning the lights off is last on your mind. You can save the big bucks by just remember to shut off your closet light when you leave!

Turn the heat down at night: Yes, it is important to stay warm during these cold months, but you also need to realize how much heat is enough. When you go to sleep at night, turning down your heat to around 60-65 degrees (depending on the temperature outside) will save you on your energy bill.

Having blinds that keep the heat in: Thicker blinds on your windows can help you save significantly on your energy bill. These thicker blinds will prevent your heat from your room zone heater from sneaking out the cracks, and keep your house at a steady temperature.
