Use these tips to pick the right kitchen lighting.<\/p><\/div>\n

Choosing just the right Kitchen Lighting <\/a>can be a difficult task. The kitchen is the busiest room in your house.\u00a0 It could also be used as a dining room or a room to gather with friends and family.\u00a0 It’s important to choose the right lighting for your kitchen for whatever role it takes on in your home.<\/p>\n

Smaller kitchens may only need one central light in combination with under-cabinet<\/a> task lighting for kitchen lighting.\u00a0 Larger kitchens will need recessed lighting<\/a> in combination with other lights.<\/p>\n

General Kitchen Lighting<\/h3>\n

For general kitchen lighting needs, use recessed lighting<\/a> or a central chandelier<\/a>.\u00a0 Recessed lighting should be placed about 30″ away from the wall.\u00a0 Recessed Lighting should also be set around the perimeter of the kitchen to provide even illumination.\u00a0 If using a chandelier, make sure the shades are glass instead of fabric for easier cleaning.\u00a0 For smaller kitchens, a single, three-bulb flush mount ceiling light may be sufficient.<\/p>\n

Undercabinet Kitchen Lighting<\/h3>\n

For undercabinet lighting<\/a>, be sure to place the fixtures at the front of the cabinet (on the underside) so your countertops will get even illumination.\u00a0 Putting your undercabinet lighting on a dimmer is also a good way to save energy\u00a0 and adjust the lighting to the task at hand, or to provide ambient lighting for those midnight snack runs.<\/p>\n

Sink and Stove Kitchen Lighting<\/h3>\n

Over the sink and stove areas, you’ll want enough light for cooking and washing dishes.\u00a0 The type of kitchen lighting can vary depending on your kitchen’s configuration.\u00a0 You can use track lighting<\/a>, flushmount lighting<\/a>, or even decorative fluorescent lights.<\/p>\n

Table Kitchen Lighting<\/h3>\n

For illuminating the kitchen table, you’ll need to set your pendant<\/a> or nook light<\/a> 30″ above your table.\u00a0 Ideally, whichever fixture you choose should be about 12″ narrower than the smallest diameter of the table.<\/p>\n

Island and Bar Kitchen Lighting<\/h3>\n

Mini pendant lighting<\/a> works very well over Island counters and breakfast bars.\u00a0 There are also lights specifically for island lighting<\/a>.\u00a0 Make sure your lighting is 66″-60″ off the floor from the bottom of the fixture.\u00a0 For every two feet of counter space, you’ll need to install one pendant light.\u00a0 Though one or two more can be added for aesthetics.<\/p>\n
